Rochdale Olympic parts list

 

Below is a list of parts which were used on Rochdale Olympics, we have tried to make this list as accurate and comprehensive as possible, however as the information on the parts used has been gained from notes and conversations we have had over the years it cannot be guaranteed that it is totally accurate.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 axle casing. Phase 1 and Phase 2, Riley 1.5, Wolseley 1500, Morris 1000.

 

Brackets are welded on to suit trailing arms and spring/damper assemblies.

Oil seal, Unipart GHS147.

 

Late Phase 2 use Ford Corsair axle casing.

 

Bracket locations are different between Phase 1 and Phase 2, and between BMC and Ford axles.

 

 

Phase 1 and Phase 2 wheels. Phase 1, Riley 1.5, Wolseley 1500, Morris 1000. 3.0" x 14"

Piercing of the wheels was an optional extra consisting of 8 x 1.25" diameter holes arranged in pairs.

Austin A35, A40 and Sprite/Midget wheels 3.5" x 13" also fit but require matching nuts.

Austin 6cwt van (Morris Minor shape) use 4" x 14" wheels which may require modification to the rear arches.

Phase 2, Riley 1.5 or Morris 1000. 3.0" x 14"

Vauxhall Victor 4.5" x 14" requiring different wheel nuts.

Piercing of wheels is an optional extra consisting of 12 x 0.875 diameter holes evenly spaced.

 

 

Dynamo. Std Lucas part. Lucas C40.

 

Modified adjuster on 'B' series engine Phase 1, as dynamo is raised from standard position to clear steering column.

 

For BMC engine use Lucas RB106/2 control box.

 

For Ford engine use Lucas RB340 control box.

 

 


 

OLYMPIC PHASE I

Engine/gearbox. 1275cc BMC 'A' series/4 speed gearbox.

 

Engine. 1500cc BMC 'B' series.

 

Gearbox. BMC 'B' series gearbox.

 

There are two sets of gear ratios fitted as standard.

 

Low ratios fitted o all commercial vehicles and pre 1956 cars.

1st - 3.945:5.159.

2nd - 2.402:5.159.

3rd - 1.490:5.159.

4th - 1.000:5.195.

 

High ratios fitted to all post 1956 cars up to the all synchromesh Mk2 MGB box.

1st - 3.640:4.753.

2nd - 2.214:4.753.

3rd - 1.374:4.753.

4th - 1.000:4.753.

 

The first motion shaft has 10 splines up to about 1961, and 23 splines thereafter. Use appropriate clutch plate to match number of splines.

 

 

Front anti roll bar. RMP original part.

 

Saddle bushes are Austin A60, part number 11H460.

Eyebolt bushes are Metalastic, part number 13/1198. Alternative Betta parts SAB5, shock absorber bush with original inner sleeve.

Front brakes. 7" X 1.25" wide drums, pre 1963 Morris 1000.

8" X 1.50" wide drums, late Morris 1000.

9" X 1.50" wide drums, Wolseley 1500.

9" X 2.25" wide drums, Riley 1.5

Girling GB48893PH.

 

M1000 and Wolseley 1500 components are of Lockheed manufacture with adjustment by means of a "snail cam" operated with a screwdriver through the hole provided in the brake drum.

 

Riley 1.5 components are of Girling manufacture with adjustment by means of a square headed adjuster fitted on the backplate.

 

Morris 1000 components are also the same as those fitted to the Austin A35 and A40.

 

The brakes are interchangeable as complete assemblies (ie drum, backplate, shoes etc.) hence the larger Riley or Wolseley items can be fitted in place of the Morris 1000 items.

 

 

Steering rack. Riley 1.5 or Morris Minor.

 

Riley 1.5 steering racks have flanged ends for attachment to the subframe, whereas the Morris Minor item uses a 'U' bolt clamp arrangement. Hence the subframes vary to accommodate these different attachment methods.

 

Steering rack heights are also different due to the location of the steering arms on the kingpin. The internal components of the steering racks are identical.

 

Track rod ends are common to all models. Note certain pattern parts may not be threaded full depth reguiring modification to the ends of the rack to allow for correct wheel alignment.

Steering column. RMP modified Riley 1.5 / Morris 1000.

 

Steering column flexible joint is Renault Dauphine (later Renault models use the same part)

 

Alternative use Morris Marina (metalastic 21/940)
Brake master cylinder. Classic Mini, 0.625 bore.

 

Clutch master cylinder. Classic Mini.

 

Peddle box assembly. Classic Mini.

 

Torsion bars. Riley 1.5.

 

 

Torsion bar adjuster plate. RMP original part. AGM
Rear radius arms. RMP original part.

 

Rear spring/damper assembly. Woodhead Monroe, RMP original part. Now available from Rochdale Owners Club.

Alternative, Spax part number G100-S170.

Springs : 19 coils, wound from 0.3444" diameter wire with an inside diameter of 2" and a free length of 14.5". Spring rate 90lb/in

 

Rear axle. Riley 1.5/Morris Minor/Wolseley 1500.

 

Alternative differential ratios are available.

3.900 10/39 Late MG Midget ('69 onwards).

4.222 09/38 Early MG Midget, Austin Healey Sprite, and Late Morris 1000.

4.555 09/41 Early Morris 1000.

4.875 08/39 Early A35.

5.375 08/43 Morris 1000 Post Office Van.

 

 

Rear brakes. 7" X 1.25" wide drums, Morris 1000.

8" X 1.50" wide drums, Wolseley 1500.

8" X 1.50" wide drums, Riley 1.5

OLYMPIC PHASE II

Front top wishbone. Standard Triumph. Herald/Spitfire.

In the Phase 2 installation they are transposed left to right to move the anti-roll bar mounting to the lower rear arm.

Springs : 14.75 coils, wound from 0.4375" diameter wire with an outside diameter of 3.5625" and a free length of 12.75". Spring rate 132lb/in.

 

Rear axle. Riley 1.5/Morris Minor/Wolseley 1500.
