I own the ex-Keith and Jean Ross Players No6 National Autocross Championship car. Nigel Jenkinson, the car's last owner has been very helpfull with its history. Could anybody else help with the history of this car?

Peter
I owned it before Nigel and rescued it from almost certain demolition. Any information I had on the car, I passed on to Nigel. When it was in my ownership, I recall the large steel plates bolted to the inner wheel arches to reinforce the car with the tremendous hammering it had to tolerate when racing. Good luck with your search. |

Hello everyone
I've just bought FRU from Peter, well most of it!
missing the crossmember (and drawings) which he has promised me
its also bereft of engine, box, engine mountings, diff, wiring, dash etc
despite the dissaproving looks from the wife I do fully intend to finish the GRP work, and re prepare it for circuit racing
the Ford running on the whole is simple
If anyone can help/advise with any of the following I'd be very much appreciative
fuel tanks ( 2 x 5 gallon )
Roll cage mounting
decent front suspension set up and subframe details ( period correct!)
There is a lot of correspondence etc in a box file, I've now found original copies of a few magazines etc, but all the photos listed by Michael Ballantyne are missing, they must exist somewhere, and I'd be very pleased if I could get hold of them, even as scans, if anyone can help ??? The idea is to reinstate as much of the period spec as possible.
I have the video as well, I'll try and get it onto DVD for anyone who may be interested, it also shows 11 LOR in action as well as some Fab period clobber !!!
thanks
Joe

I collected the subframe today, a copy of an ACAD drawing, and a foot high stack of 'mags' not wheels, not 'Adult art' but ROC publications, bedside sized they are too.
the crossmembers far better than I'd been led to believe, if I welded up the hacksaw cuts some t!ts made it'd probably be usable . . . . blasting will reveal more I'm sure
The drawing has some valuable key dimensions, and as soon as I can find time I'll be comparing the two.
I don't know if mines 'std' although my gut feeling is no two are the same!
more soon . . . . |

Is this car going to be dual purpose ie road and track? If it's going to be a pure racing car, why bother with twin tanks as a centrally mounted aluminium tank would be much better and often found on Ebay.
As for the front subframe, you'll find much written about them in the club magazines. A few members have fabricated their own using the standard subframe as a basis only. If your Olympic is intended for the track only, you would want to consider making the front suspension adjustable as the standard set-up isn't. |

Hi Paul
as I mentioned elsewhere, I've read lots over christmas, I think I'll be starting again, and a std Spitfire type set up on a modified cross member seems to make sense, simple, period correct, adjustable etc.
my other idea was to make each side pivot at the bottom and adjustable at the top to allow camber adjustment and by bolting the whole subframe in it could be shimmed to fine tune caster, but that started to seem complex and expensive
I'll probably change my mind again next week! |

I've done something . . .at last!
stripped and checked the back axle . . . gently bead blasted the casing and trailing arms ( after removing 2kg of south downs mud from each arm, chemically treated piitted rust and have primed and painted them . . . . still haven't got the radius arm off the body yet!
as soon as I've sold a spare Cortina or an engine I'll buy all the bushes and dampers I need . . . . . and hopefully make some more progress on the cage! |

Hi Joe, are you using a pre-crossflow engine( like your other cars), or are you going for a crossflow? If a crossflow, then what exhaust manifold will you use? If a pre-crossflow, will the manifold from www.105speed.com fit? I know you were going to try it. It will be interesting to see how your front end turns out.

it'll be a 1500 precrossflow and I won't use a 105speed manifold, no idea on manifold yet, I currently use a home made on on the Cortina as no one makes a decent one . . . .. yet! |

the 105 speed is a good shape for fitting into an anglia and other tight sopaces, but frankly the 4-1 design and length leave dreadful holes in the torque curve of a tuned engine, a std GT manifold performs better on a dyno with a 1500 |
