Has anyone had a rollcage - rear, or full - made recently for an Olympic?
How do you fit one into a grp body. Rollcage feet are really designed to bolt into to steel monocoque bodies with steel spreader plates welded to the body. What do Olympic owers do? - create fibreglass/plywood mounting points on the inside laminated into the body, and use large steel/carbon fibre/Tufnol/plywood [with very large washers for bolts] spreader plates on the outside/underneath the sills/floor?
Reading the UK regulations for speed events looks like for under 2 litre marque sports car (is it one?) only a rear cage would be mandatory for ModProd, and nothing for a roadgoing car competing in road car classes.
Thanks

If I were to do all the work required to get a roll cage produced proffesionally, how many people would be interested? There would be a significant saving if we did a group buy.
That is assuming we could reach agreement on a final design.
Initial thoughts are to do a modular design, ie a rear cage with the following optional add on bits:-
1)front cage
2)door bars
3)rear cage diagonal
What do you reckon?

I've designed a cage already . . . . 6 point, up to current historic FiA spec . . . Keith emailed me some pics, bonding it in is probably the best idea, particularly the main hoop which everything hangs off.
I recently bought a t45 main hoop designed for a 911 which is nearly exactly the same as my drawing . . . so its a start, and on budget . . . .it was £5 on fleabay! |
